Pre-Admission Examination

All applicants are required to take a pre-admission examination. The Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing uses the Test of Essential Academic Skills and the Self-Assessment Inventory from ATI (Assessment Technologies Incorporated).  Following is a description of the information included on these tests:

Test of Essential Academic Skills
Reading - covers paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension and inferences/conclusions
Mathematics - covers whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions and decimals, algebraic
    equations, percentages and ratio/proportion.
Science and Technical Reasoning - covers science reasoning, science knowledge, biology,
chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic physical principles and general science.
English and Language Usage - measures knowledge of punctuation, grammar, sentence
    structure, contextual words and spelling.

Self-Assessment Inventory
Identifies unique learning styles, quantifies critical thinking components and serves as a
communication tool to improve the understanding of each applicant's professional
    characteristics and work ethics.

The School of Nursing will schedule the ATI TEAS test in advance, and the applicant will be notified by mail. The test is administered via paper and pencil and is monitored by a member of the School Faculty.  The time required to complete the test is approximately 4 1/2 hours.  The fee for the exam is included in the application fee.  The ATI TEAS test can be taken only one time.

There is a Pre-test Study Manual available from ATI to help you prepare for the TEAS test.  This book is available from ATI.  You can visit their website at www.atitesting.com for details.

*If an applicant cannot attend the scheduled appointment, the School of Nursing must be notified, (724-656-4052), within twenty-four (24) hours prior to the scheduled appointment.  If an applicant does not show to take the test or does not give the appropriate notice, their application for admission will be deactivated.
