Jameson Health System brings state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to Lawrence County with the
opening of the Jameson Hospital Center for Wound Healing on Monday, February 2 on the fourth floor of its
South Campus, located at 1000 South Mercer St. in New Castle .

Jameson Memorial Hospital is one of only a few hospitals in the state of Pennsylvania to offer this non-invasive
treatment that enhances the body's natural ability to heal itself by the inhalation of 100% oxygen at greater than
atmospheric pressure.

HBOT is used to treat diabetic leg & foot wounds, chronic bone infection (osteomyelitis), failed skin grafts or flaps,
radiation tissue injury (cystitis, proctitis, osteoradionecrosis), necrotizing infections, gas gangrene, Carbon monoxide
poisoning, crush injuries and other slow- or non-healing wounds.

All treatments are supervised by physicians with specialized training in hyperbaric medicine.  Most patients receive 20
to 40 treatments on an outpatient basis.  During treatment, the patient rests comfortably in an enclosed chamber and
breathes the 100 percent oxygen under pressure for 90 to 110 minutes.

In the ambient atmosphere, humans normally breathe approximately 20 percent oxygen and 80 percent nitrogen.
While undergoing HBOT, pressure is increased up to two times in 100% oxygen. In the two monoplace chambers
utilized at the
Jameson Hospital Center for Wound Healing, the entire body is immersed in 100-percent oxygen.
The increased pressure and 100 percent oxygen dissolve oxygen in the blood plasma and in all body cells, tissues
and fluids at up to 10 times the normal concentration.

The Jameson Hospital Center for Wound Healing offers a comprehensive approach for patients with chronic wound
issues.  The Center’s multi-disciplinary healthcare team, which includes physicians with advanced training in wound
management and nurses skilled in chronic wound care treatment, will work to remedy patients’ wound treatment needs
and subsequent complications that may arise.  After careful evaluation of patients’ condition and medical history, the
staff and physician will develop the correct and specific treatment plan.

Dr. William Gilleland, M.D., serves as the medical director for the new Center, which is also staffed by center director,
Diane Hofius, WOCN, RNP; Gregg Hallowich, hyperbaric technician and an additional wound care nurse. The Center
is under the nursing oversight of Barbara Bernardi, RN, nurse executive for Jameson Health System.

Physicians currently associated with the center include: David Hofius, D.O.; Fernando Hayetian, M.D.;
Michael Drespling, D.P.M.; James Rupp, D.P.M. and Robert Vandrak, D.O.

The Center is conveniently located on the fourth floor of Jameson Hospital ’s South Campus.
